I don't pretend to be an indifferent genius who thinks its below my dignity to discuss politics. And I dislike people who do that. You cannot simply ignore the environment you live in and pose as a Mr. or Ms. Know-It-All.
So why India needs Modi?
1. Development: For all MBA friends of mine, read this: Deutsche Bank Report. It will tell you why Gujarat is the best state in India to invest in. And let nobody be fooled, this is not a windfall by any measures.
2. NOT a Chameleon: For a change. The best thing I like about him is that he is not spineless like other politicians. He takes a stance and has the guts to stand by it. That he won is only after effect. He ran the risk of losing too. Indian voters are so unpredictable.
3. No Corruption: That the opposition can't find a single instance, is the biggest proof of that. And the funny thing is that this fact wasn't used as a USP by BJP, since on the whole they can't claim to be a corruption free party.
4. A True Hindu: For all those who call Modi a fascist. If there wasn't a Godhara, there would not have been a Modi. Hinduism is never for first aggression. But Hinduism is also not for tolerating nonsense. Read Ramayana, Mahabharata and Gita. You would find innumerable instances of the same. Right from Lakshman chopping off the nose of Surpnakha to Bheema vowing to clean Draupadi's hair with the blood from Dushasana's chest.
Even if you think Modi is a dictator, he is exactly the material India needs at the topmost level. Too much of democracy has spoiled us.
Terrorism, unlike most political parties in India and unfortunately, is secular. And hence we need an iron-hand to set things straight, preferably 'Made In India'.

It is interesting that you made these observations.. Hitler too followed the same model. He brought system in a chaotic, war-ravaged Germany, eliminated corruption (though later, during the later stages of holocaust corruption had begun to seep in), the industrial revolution, and the mechanical precision that is an hallmark of German pdts has it's genesis in Hitler's era of emphasis on development. Does it mean that it justifies the Holocaust? No.. while wht happened in Gujarat, does not compare to wht da Jews underwent, the sad truth is that the people killed, injured, raped and left orpahned, where miles away from the Godhra site. Those young kids aged 5 had nothing to do with it.. they were killed.. those young women were miles away yet they paid with their respect and eventually lives.. If Modi & his government had captured the real perpretators of the Godhra fire, and punished them, it wld have been a different case. All the examples you have quoted, frm religious books, punish the gulity, not the innocent by-stander who was miles away (in amhedabad), unconnected with the incident. Wld it be justified if someone killed me coz a Sikh terrorist causes havoc somewhr else? Dude, i don't even know who did that, how can u hold an entire community responsible for wht some fanatic did? and kill innocent kids, unborn kids (pregnant women were targetting as well during the riots)??? Gujarat maybe doing great economically, and there are lessons to be learnt from them, but let us not gloss over the ugly parts..

My heart tells me to always believe in what you said. But I've lived in Hyderabad, living next to the colony where people celebrated with fireworks when India was defeated by Bangladesh in Cricket. Such incidences really make it hard for me, not to generalize even when I think it is wrong to do so.
I know that two wrongs don't make a right. Every war takes the maximum toll of innocent people, that precisely being the reason it's not good for humanity. Isn't that true for the family of every soldier that dies in battlefield? But some people don't even listen unless you give them the taste of their own medicine.
As our current law stands, no innocent should be punished even though 100 criminals might be let free. The question I raise is that where has this law led us to? I know its easier to say, than being at the receiving end of any diversion to this law. But what the heck, isn't our society already at the receiving end anyway?
When it comes to supporting Modi, it is only in contrast with the existing Government whose minority appeasing tactics has bred terrorism in our country. Once in every three months at least, there is a bomb blast. And I think more innocent people have been killed in those, than in Gujarat. And who is responsible for that if not the current government.
BUT, as always, your comments just complement my views like a missing piece of the puzzle. Someday I would love to write something in collaboration with you :)

While no one is denying gujarat's progress in the last few years, it doesn't erase godhara.
As for godhara being 'provoked', you should research the incident thoroughly. It is a documented fact that the VSP men who were burnt in the train were drinking and misbehaving with co-passengers. Does that justify burning the train?

No act of hatred targeted towards a community is acceptable. If modi is the massiah of hindus, does it make dawood the savior for muslims? after all the mumbai blasts were only a retaliation for the 91 riots!! C'mon, the world doesn't need another modi... And it is unacceptable to 'generalize' any community's loyalties to the nation or intent.
